Workin' It Wednesdays - New Years Goals

Happy Wednesday!  It is my first post of the new year, and I can't think of a better way to start of the new year than sharing my new year's goals with you all.

In a new link-up that I'm excited about this year, I will be linking the 2nd Wednesday of the month with Mix and Match Mamma and A Little Bit of Everything for a new series where we share how we are working to keep it all together!

Because aren't we all trying to do this all the time?! This will be a fun way of sharing what works for me, and seeing what others do and learn some new tricks!  If you want to join the link up too, here are the topics we will cover this year :)

I have a love/hate relationship with New Year's resolutions.  When I was younger, I used to set crazy goals, and I would stop working on them by February, or maybe even the end of January.  I feel that goals are truly something that you should work on every day to incorporate into your life and change your habits.  In an effort to keep things simple and achievable for me, I have narrowed my goals for the new year into one theme, MINDFULNESS.  I've been thinking of a few things I want to do differently this year.  So here are the ways that I am going to practice being more mindful in 2017!

1.  Mindful with family

I have already told Mike this, but I want to take more time for us this year.  Last year, probably because we expanded from a family of three to a family of four, I felt like I lost some focus on our relationship and our marriage.  I want to be more mindful on dedicating time to him and we are going to do that by starting to get a committed babysitter at least once a month so that we have set date nights.  This is one of the things I am truly most excited about changing this year!

I also want to be more mindful with my babies.

Look at them, they are growing right before my eyes.  Before I know it Arianna will be one and Vincent will be starting VPK.  Soon they won't want me to play with them, snuggle them or read them bedtime stories anymore.  I am going to put an effort to be more present during the time I spend with them and cherish these moments because I know they will pass so quickly.

2. Mindful with career

I have personal goals in my professional career that I want to hit this year.  I will have to make decisions to be able to reach those goals.  Choosing what is best for me and my family will be important to help me hit those goals.

I also want to put effort into growing my yoga business.  I have a lot of ideas for things that I want to do to bring the practice of yoga to others that will benefit from the practice.   I am going to be mindful about dedicating the time to be able to do just that.

3.  Mindful in general

I recently took a training at work that exposed me to the understanding of people's "stories," such a simple concept but so powerful.  Having more compassion, understanding and just taking time to understand where people come from is a big goal of mine for 2017.  It will allow me to create and build relationships and be more compassionate towards others.

I just finished reading Year of Yes by Shonda Rhimes.  I would highly recommend this book!

This book taught me that I need to try to say "YES" more.  Yes to opportunities and yes to saying "No."  Learning how to do this will help me better manage my time and bring new experiences my way, as well as help me to be mindful about where I'm spending my time.  Saying yes to new things is scary, but oh the opportunities and changes it could bring.  On the other hand, saying no is also scary, and probably harder for me to do than say yes.  I have a hard time telling people no.  I don't want to disappoint others or miss out on things. In 2017, I am going to be mindful about being comfortable with saying "Yes" to saying "No."
The book ended with one of my favorite new quotes, "You must do the things that you think you cannot do" - Eleanor Roosevelt.  How powerful is that, if we all did that a little more, imagine what we could accomplish and achieve!!

I also want to be more mindful in my fitness and eating habits.  Commitment to taking time to myself will help get me back to the body that I love and feel comfortable in.  Practicing mindfulness in my friendships and relationships.  Being present and dedicating time with those that matter the most!  Being more mindful with my purchases, and how we spend our money is also lumped into this general mindfulness category.

I am excited to see how practicing mindfulness will change my life this year.  What are your goals for 2017?

XO

Shari
